The Photo Emulsion Method is one of the most exciting techniques of screen-printing, offering a wide range of possibilities. This method allows for fine line drawings, various lettering techniques and photographic halftone positives. Speedball’s Diazo Photo Emulsion offers professional-grade results and removes the need for expensive equipment and darkrooms. This emulsion can be used with any water-soluble or solvent-based ink and can be easily removed with Speedball’s Photo Emulsion Remover. Speedball’s Diazo Photo Emulsion is a 2-step process where the photo emulsion needs to be “activated”. To activate the emulsion, sensitizer must be added. The sensitizer is a very thick oil and needs water to create the right consistency for adding it to the photo emulsion. To use fill the bottle to 3/4 full with cold water. Mix well and add the entire contents to the Photo Emulsion. Stir well until the colour is uniformed. The big advantage of Speedball’s’ Diazo Photo Emulsion is there is no need for a light safe environment. Simply working under normal light will keep the emulsion from premature exposure.
